The Jurkovič Heating Plant
Jurkovič Heating Plant – A Creative Landmark in the Heart of Bratislava
Once an industrial powerhouse, today the Jurkovič Heating Plant (Jurkovičova Tepláreň) stands as one of Bratislava’s most remarkable examples of adaptive reuse—a vibrant blend of history, architecture, and innovation.
Designed by Dušan Jurkovič, Slovakia’s pioneer of modern architecture, the building was originally completed in 1942 as part of the city’s heating infrastructure. After decades of operation and a period of decline, it was declared a National Cultural Monument and later underwent a major revitalization.
Today, the Heating Plant is a multifunctional space surrounded by contemporary architecture and public green spaces designed by global studios including Zaha Hadid Architects. With its exposed brickwork, steel walkways, restored crane, and rooftop skylights, it captures the spirit of Bratislava’s past while powering the city’s creative future.
Location: Bottova 1, 811 09 Bratislava
