TAXI

Főtaxi is the official taxi company of Budapest Airport.

Reservations can be made in person at the Főtaxi booths located at the exits of Terminals 2A and 2B. At the taxi ranks in front of the stands, taxis are continuously waiting for passengers.

In Hungary, the taxi decree regulates the price* of taxis at a fixed tariff of 440 HUF/km (1,15 EUR/km), in addition to a one-off basic fee of 1100 HUF (2.85 EUR) and a waiting fee. A ride to the city center should typically cost around 10800 HUF (28 EUR), depending on traffic conditions.

Please be aware of potentially exposing yourself to risks by using other, non-contracted taxi service providers soliciting at the terminal buildings.

Public transportation from the airport

Since taxis are quite inexpensive - expect a ride to downtown to cost around EUR 25-30 we recommend you use BOLT (you can download the app) or Főtaxi. Public transportation from the airport is quite slow and not very comfortable. However, if you’re in for an adventure, here are your options:

TRAIN

The closest train station to Budapest Airport Terminal 2 is Ferihegy, with trains operating to and from the Nyugati railway station in Budapest. Nearly 100 trains per day, including InterCity services, provide easy access to and from the city in less than half an hour, for a few hundred HUF.

From the Ferihegy train station, Terminal 2 is accessible by bus number 200E.

Tickets

Train tickets are not available for purchase at Terminal 2. However, trains operating between the Ferihegy train station and the Nyugati railway station may be used with BKK passes free of charge. The 24, 48 and 72-hour Budapest Cards available from the Tourist Information – Budapestinfo Point counters on the arrivals level of Terminals 2A and 2B are also valid for these services. Please visit budapest-card.com for more information.

Hungarian state railway company MÁV operates a domestic ticket office at the Ferihegy train station every day from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. In addition, train tickets can also be purchased from the ticket machines located on the platforms. Tickets for destinations not shown on the ticket machines and supplementary tickets for premium category trains are available from the conductor on board the trains, without a surcharge.

Offer for departing passengers

As a result of cooperation between MÁV and the Budapest Transport Center (BKK), passengers taking the train to the Ferihegy train station can purchase a discount bus ticket for their journey to Terminal 2. Discount bus tickets cost 300 HUF, and are only available together with the train ticket, from ticket offices at railway stations where tickets are sold from dispenser machines. Discount tickets are only valid between the bus stop next to the Ferihegy train station and Budapest Airport Terminal 2, on bus number 200E.

Traveling with a BKK ticket, travelcard or pass in Budapest

The 100E Airport Express airport shuttle bus single ticket and the majority of BKK tickets, travelcards, and passes are now available digitally in different mobile apps, such as the BudapestGO app.

Single tickets and airport shuttle bus single tickets are valid for one ride, without any trip interruption or transfer. The metro network is an exception in terms of ticket validation: there is no need to validate a new ticket when transferring between metro lines.

You need to validate your single tickets at the start of your journey.

Paper tickets: use a validating machine on board the vehicles or by metro station entrances - it will stamp a code on the ticket or punch a hole.

Digital tickets: scan the validation code stickers, which you will find at the entrance of the metro on the side of the paper-ticket validators and outside by the doors on street-level transport.

Time-based tickets (30 or 90 minutes), which are available only digitally, must always be validated when you board a different vehicle.

Daily travelcards and passes: no validation required, valid for an unlimited number of trips during the validity period, non-transferable.

Ticket sales points

Several types of public transport tickets and passes are available for purchase at the BKK customer service centres at Terminals 2A and 2B, as well as from BKK ticket vending machines near the entry points to the terminals.  Agents at the BKK customer service points provide information on public transport and assistance with journey planning for trips within Budapest.

The airport shuttle bus single ticket can also be purchased in the BudapestGO app.
